october loves

I’m a bit late posting this one, but here it is nonetheless. Some of my favorite things & moments from this past month.  We’ve been awfully busy getting the house ready for Gabby’s birthday party. We moved, we furiously unpacked, had new carpet installed, painted, and organized.

1. Gabby’s pumpkin birthday party
And we had a wonderful time hosting our family for the little pumpkin’s first birthday.  And of course, smashing birthday cake.

2. Trip to the pumpkin patch & a harvest festival
Warm pumpkin donuts on a freezing day. And giant pumpkins. Fun was had.

3. The cutest little hat of all time.
4. The completion of our family mission statement.
My husband willingly went along with my insistence that we create a cohesive statement identifying the core values and beliefs for our family. We sat down, identified the beliefs that unite us, and wrote them out. These are things we want for ourselves and our children right now, 10 years from now, 20 years from now and so on. These are values that are the core of who we are. To make it a little more official, we had my talented typography-friend, Sandra, put together those statements into a cool looking document.   It’s currently hanging in the playroom as a prominent visual of what means most to us.

5. Trick or treat!
The only sewing I’ve been able to accomplish since we’ve moved is a single pre-school sized pillowcase and this treat bag for Halloween.  I made have made this on Halloween morning upon realization that we did not have a treat bag.  Not exactly revolutionary, but at least I’ve been able to get my machine out again.

And this final item certainly isn’t something I love, but it happened this month and it’s part of our lives.

6. Losing a furry family member.
This month we lost a loyal friend. Meike was a great dog and we’ve really been missing her. I am grateful for the time that we spent with her, but I wasn’t ready to let her go yet.
